Archives Hackday

Cardiff University

Monday, 24 April 2017, 10am–5pm

Workshop Leads: Martin Poulter, Owen Stephens

Following on from the success of the December 2016 workshop on ‘Remediating the Archive’, the GW4 Alliance is collaborating with Jisc to run an archives hackday on 24 April 2017.

Focused on getting creative with and remediating Jisc’s UK Medical Heritage Library and JISC Historical Texts (EEBO, ECCO, British Library 19th Century) and the use of Wikimedia/Wikipedia platforms for working with content drawn from digital archives, paired sessions will give participants opportunities to experiment and work with either:

  • Strand 1: Jisc UK Medical Heritage Library (am) and Wikimedia tools (pm)
  • Strand 2: Wikimedia tools (am) and Jisc Historical Texts (pm).

No prior experience is necessary as the hackday is designed as an introduction with experts from Jisc on hand to offer advice, training and support. The session is open to academic staff, postgraduate students and colleagues from GW4 institutions and partners. There is no need to have attended the December workshop to attend the hackday.

The sessions will be led by Dr Martin Poulter (Wikimedia tools) and Owen Stephens (UKMHL/Historical Texts).

Registration is free but places are limited to 20 per strand, so early booking is advised. Please register by visiting https://gw4-archives-hackday.eventbrite.co.uk/.
